Awa Kapua is one of them.
In te reo Māori, awa means river, current or flowing water. Kapua means cloud or mist. Together, they evoke the image of a river of clouds, where water meets the sky.
Perched high above the Tasman Sea, the land is often wrapped in rolling mist as the weather moves across the coastline. It is a place suspended between earth and sky, where light is constantly changing and every season reveals a different side of the landscape.
To us, Awa Kapua represents more than a name. It speaks to movement and stillness, grounding and possibility. A place where people can pause, reconnect and create meaningful moments together.

There is something difficult to explain about this place.
Perhaps it’s the ever-changing skies, the sound of the ocean below, or the feeling that time moves a little differently here. Whatever it is, the land has a quiet presence that invites you to slow down and simply be.
Every sunrise, every passing storm and every golden evening reminds us that this landscape has existed long before us and will continue long after us.
We don’t see ourselves as owners.
We see ourselves as custodians.
Our role is simply to care for the land, honour its natural beauty and thoughtfully share it with others who value meaningful experiences in remarkable places.
OUR STORY
A PLACE THAT CHOSE US
Awa Kapua came into our lives unexpectedly, but from the very beginning it felt as though the land had chosen its own path.
As we began dreaming about what this place could become, one idea remained constant. Whatever was created here needed to feel connected to the landscape rather than imposed upon it.
Our hope is that every gathering leaves the land just as respected as it was found, while creating memories that become part of its continuing story.
GHOST
THE GUARDIAN OF
AWA KAPUA
Every place has its guardian.
Ghost had been part of the land’s story long before we arrived. When we became custodians, he quietly became part of ours too.
As we explored the property and searched for the identity of Awa Kapua, imagining what this place might one day become, Ghost emerged from the bushes and stood proudly atop a grassy mound overlooking the land. It was one of those moments that couldn’t have been planned, but somehow felt exactly right.
From that day forward, Ghost became part of Awa Kapua.
More than a beloved companion, he represents the thread between those who cared for this place before us and those who care for it today. His quiet presence reminds us that Awa Kapua has always had its own story, and that we are simply fortunate enough to become part of it.
It felt only natural that Ghost would become the symbol of Awa Kapua, honouring both the land and the journey that brought us here.
